RESOLUTION HONORING MATTHEW KENNETH SURLINE
RESOLUTION #03-264
WHEREAS, Matthew Kenneth Surline is a senior at Holt High School; and
WHEREAS, he is also a member of the Lansing Police Explorer Post, where he is receiving hands-on experience as a police officer; and
WHEREAS, upon his graduation, Matthew's goal is to attend the Police Academy or join the Army to become a military police officer; and
WHEREAS, Matthew has been an active participant in Boy Scout Troop #63 since 1997 and has earned 29 merit badges; and
WHEREAS, he is a member of the Order of the Arrow where he has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, scribe and quartermaster for his patrol; and
WHEREAS, his Eagle Project involved construction of five benches to be placed throughout the Williamstown Township Park so that visitors to the park could sit and rest while enjoying the beauty around them; he spent a total of five hours planning the project, 22 hours implementing the project and was assisted by eleven fellow scouts, friends and family members spending an additional 115 hours on the completion of the project; and
WHEREAS, Matthew has earned the highest rank attainable in Scouting, the Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, to achieve the Eagle rank, a scout must demonstrate leadership and citizenship while earning 21 merit badges before reaching the age of 18.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners congratulates Matthew Kenneth Surline for earning the rank of Eagle Scout and extends its sincere appreciation to Matthew for serving as a positive role model for the youth in our community.
